Getting laughed at
Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 07:52AM This week my caretakers pulled together and gave me 5 wonderful days of silence, solitude, HGTV and a funny David Sedaris book. It’s the 9thish day after my last chemo treatment of adriamycin and cytoxin(sp?)...the stomach turns just typing those names. 9-10 days after these treatments my body goes into low blood count mode. But everyday I feel stronger and stronger.
Dave and I had an experience during the last doctor’s appointment. There we were sitting in the doctors office waiting for our diligent and sweet nurse, Dorothy. The last appointment she must have been sick because we had a different nurse. Dorothy has been our favorite and has taken wonderful care of us. When the door finally opened and Dorothy walked in the room her eyes grew a few inches and her finger about flew off her hand as she pointed laughing hysterically at my bald head. She forced Dave and I to chuckle a bit. But it hit us that she is laughing uncontrollably at me not with me. There was no unanimity. Out of breath she squeaked “I thought you had a swim cap on. Your bald head is so funny. Ha ha ha ha. You have no hair. Ha ha ha ha.” Both Dave and I sat there for a moment awkward and all confused but eventually gave into the situation and began laughing harder along with her. Dorothy my gosh you work in a cancer clinic don’t you see bald heads all the time? Just wanted to share this with ya so you could also laugh, but with us not at us.

glad to hear you're getting stronger jenny, and that your caregivers know how to care for you! ah, so what's up with dorthy? sounds wacky. there's an indigo girls quote that comes to mind though "you have to laugh at yourself because you'd cry your eyes out if you didn't"
Maybe Dorothy need some more time off work. Sounds like the pressure is getting to her...
I love your beautiful bald head and would kiss you right on the top of it, if I could.
FYI--Just re-did the pink. I'm thinking I will try to stay pink all year as you continue to move forward in this journey. Remember, Dorothy maybe losing it, but there are a ton of us out there totally on your side!

Thanks all! I agree Anya laughing at myself has been a great pick me up through this all.
