The saviour complex and adventurous spirit wear off after about six months and you start scrambling around looking for something to hold on to while trying to fix the world’s problems. You quickly learn that the only way to help is to give up. We can only attempt to transform lives as we make ourselves vulnerable enough to be transformed in the process. For me, El Salvador has meant vulnerability. We are physically, financially, linguistically and spiritually vulnerable. This openness and dependence is the only thing that has allowed me to best interact with God’s story in El Salvador.

Photos tell stories. El Salvador opened my eyes to the world’s story; a world where Coca Cola is more common than clean water and if you own a car you are in the top 10% of the world’s wealth. I pray that my photos help communicate grace and joy in a place where these elements don't seem prevalent.   -dave
